Dr. Weiming Xia has been fully involved in biological research since obtaining his Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in Biochemistry, from Fudan University in 1990. He obtained his Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from University of Texas Medical School at Houston in 1994.
During the past decade in academia, he has published 60 referred research articles, reviews, and book chapters (including Nature, Cell, Neuron, the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, USA, and many others). In 2004, citations of some of his articles in the field of biology and biochemistry were included in the top 1% of the ISI Essential Science Indicators. He has also edited a book entitled, "Amyloid Precursor Protein, A Practical Approach", published by CRC Press. Dr. Xia has expertise in using both mammalian cell culture and zebrafish as model systems to address the molecular pathways relevant to the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative diseases during aging.
Currently, Dr. Xia is an assistant professor at Harvard Medical School. His laboratory, located at Harvard Institute of Medicine, Boston, explores new approaches for both neuroscience research and therapeutic applications. Dr. Xia is a member of National Scientific Advisory Council, American Federation for Aging Research, and a member of the Alzheimer Antecedent Biomarkers Advisory Board. He also serves as a board director for International Association of Biological and Medical Research. Dr. Xia has been actively participating and facilitating collaborations between China and USA, e.g., helping organize international symposium for scientific exchanges, and leading a delegation of US entrepreneurs to explore opportunities in China.
