Dr. Weiming Xia has been fully involved in biological research since obtaining his Bachelor of Science degree , majoring in Biochemistry , from Fudan University in 1990 . He obtained his Ph .D . degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from University of Texas Medical School at Houston in 1994 .
During the past decade in academia , he has published 60 referred research articles , reviews , and book chapters ( including Nature , Cell , Neuron , the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences , USA , and many others ) . In 2004 , citations of some of his articles in the field of biology and biochemistry were included in the top 1% of the ISI Essential Science Indicators . He has also edited a book entitled , 'Amyloid Precursor Protein , A Practical Approach' , published by CRC Press . Dr. Xia has expertise in using both mammalian cell culture and zebrafish as model systems to address the molecular pathways relevant to the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative diseases during aging .
Currently , Dr. Xia is an assistant professor at Harvard Medical School . His laboratory , located at Harvard Institute of Medicine , Boston , explores new approaches for both neuroscience research and therapeutic applications . Dr. Xia is a member of National Scientific Advisory Council , American Federation for Aging Research , and a member of the Alzheimer Antecedent Biomarkers Advisory Board . He also serves as a board director for International Association of Biological and Medical Research . Dr. Xia has been actively participating and facilitating collaborations between China and USA , e .g . , helping organize international symposium for scientific exchanges , and leading a delegation of US entrepreneurs to explore opportunities in China .
